that boy

I'm dedicating this post to my wonderful husband, Lucas P Kane.
His birthday was last week, which was awesome. We celebrated with family at my mom's - dutch oven and outdoor living. The best. Then we had a lovely dinner with some of our closest friends. It was a great weekend of celebrating.

My mom and Lucas have a weird cat greeting card feud going on ... I don't understand it.

Machete from the brothers. Yes, it was wrapped in a towel.

Little girls doing Heavy Heavy Hangover.

My cute mom and cute Asher.

One of Brok for good measure.

Lucas is my best friend, and I'm really lucky to have such a great guy.
I just love when he practices his Dad skills (thanks to baby Link):

Also, we had the most awesome trip to San Francisco for an anniversary ... photos coming soon.

opportunity to give

I recently found the cutest blog (thanks to Jamie Oliver) - It's called Never Seconds.

Martha Payne, a 9-year-old from Scotland, was not pleased with the lunchtime offerings at her primary school: Stingy on the portions, too few vegetables, poor taste. So she did what any child of the 21st century would do – she started a blog.
from this article

So this cute little 9-year old gal is making a pretty big impact on the internet world, and has recently started a pretty neat little fundraiser - check it out here. She's trying to raise £7000 to build a kitchen with Mary's Meals. Mary’s Meals is an international movement that sets up school feeding projects in communities where poverty and hunger prevent children from gaining an education. The charity now feeds more than 600,000 children every school day and it costs just $16.80 to feed a child for a year!

You should totally donate.

Next, since Lucas is on Trek this week, we weren't able to celebrate our anniversary on the actual day (don't feel bad for us, we're spending a week in San Francisco next week!). Luckily, I have the greatest husband ever ... he had a lovely surprise waiting for me on my desk at work that morning...

He knows how much I love my Diet Coke and Good & Plenty ... He's the best.

So I'm teaching Relief Society this week, and it's Teaching for Our Time. The article is from the most recent conference: Coming to Ourselves: The Sacrament, the Temple, and Sacrifice in Service. It's such a great talk from Elder Robert D Hales encouraging us to become spiritually self-reliant as we live our covenants. You should read it.

Last, my friend Jesse has this awesome blog where she puts her incredible work - Scatter Sunshine Printables. She's seriously so talented. Anyway, she added one recently with a summer B of M reading chart - I'm totally going to do it. Check it out.

PS Jesse - I wish you and I were better friends, I think you're really neat.

FHE

Lucas is on Trek this week, so Brok and I did our own thing for Family Home Evening. Of course it was a hike, it was Brok's idea. Hiking is my very favorite thing, especially this trail - I know I've talked about it before, but it's my very favorite. It's lovely all the time, any season, never super crowded, and 10 minutes from my house. I can leave my house, hike/run 2.5-3 miles and be home in an hour. It's glorious. And Brok LOVES it.

Here are some pictures from last night:

Maybe I need a new hobby ... any suggestions?
